Dr Penny Wurm

Senior Lecturer in Ecology and livelihoods

Be supervised by Penny

I am an ecologist, with a research background in wetland and invasive species ecology. Led by PhD graduate Dr James Boyden, recent publications from this work focus on the invasion ecology of para grass on the floodplains of Kakadu National Park.

Applied ecology projects have led to work that integrates ecology and livelihoods, including in agricultural settings in Indonesia and Timor Leste. This work has involved a joint teaching field intensive with Indonesian university partners and HDR project supervision.

I am currently working with my CDU colleague Dr Sean Bellairs on the commercialisation of Australian native rice with an Indigenous enterprise and NT DPIR, through both the CRC Northern Australia and CRC Future Food Systems. I am passionate about teaching, and teach mainly in the Master of Environmental Management, and coordinate several units including environmental intensives in Indonesia.

Research interests:

  • Ecology and livelihoods
