Professor Indra Abeysekera

Professor in Accounting, Chair of Accounting and Finance

Professor Indra Abeysekera is Professor of Accounting, and Chair of Accounting and Finance, having previously held academic posts at University of Wollongong, The University of Sydney, and Macquarie University. He is also a Chartered Accountant in Australia, Chartered Management Accountant in the U.K., and CPA in Australia.

Prior to joining academia, Professor Indra worked in different organisations spanning the private and public sectors. While in academia he has consistently engaged with the accountancy profession, holding various governance roles. Given his in-depth experiential understanding of both academia and practice, he skillfully combines conceptual approaches with practice to bring relevance to research.

Professor Indra has presented his ideas and research findings, at refereed international conferences, professional accountancy institutions, and universities. His opinion on accounting and business matters has been broadcast by radio, television and newspapers. He has been an invited keynote speaker at international conferences. He has created two YouTube channels: Accounting online with Professor Indra Abeysekera, and DBA online with Professor Indra Abeysekera to help and share knowledge with the world community.

Professor Indra Abeysekera has presented and published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and authored 9 books. His research covers Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.
